REDRAGON STAR BLADE K707 PRO REVIEW

REDRAGON STAR BLADE K707 PRO REVIEW

5 years ago I tried my first mechanical keyboard and I that was it – I never vent back. Since then at my home and work I use mechanical keyboards.

What Is a Mechanical Keyboard?

At its core, a mechanical keyboard uses individual mechanical switches beneath each key. Unlike membrane keyboards, which rely on a thin rubber dome to register keystrokes, mechanical keyboards provide precise, tactile feedback. You can actually feel the switch actuate, which not only feels better but also tends to be more accurate and satisfying.

Because each key is its own independent switch, mechanical keyboards are more durableeasier to repair or customize, and offer better responsiveness. It’s not just about speed and accuracy—there’s a genuine joy in using a good mechanical board that makes you want to type more.

Mechanical vs. Membrane: Why It Matters

Most standard office or laptop keyboards are membrane-based. They’re cheap to produce and get the job done, but they lack the satisfying feel and feedback that mechanical boards offer.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

FeatureMechanical KeyboardMembrane Keyboard
Typing FeelTactile, clicky, or smoothSoft, often mushy
Durability50+ million keystrokes5-10 million keystrokes
NoiseCan be loud or quietGenerally quieter
PriceUsually higherBudget-friendly
CustomizationHighVery limited

Mechanical keyboards are especially appreciated by those who type a lot or game competitively. Once you’ve experienced a good mechanical board, it’s hard to go back.

MOA Profile Round PBT Keycaps
Gasket Structure & Hot-Swap Functionality
3-Mode Connectivity
5-Layer Noise Dampening
Custom Mint Mambo Linear Switch

I really like TKL keyboards. It is just the right size for me. The size is comparably smaller compared to full keyboards. It is better for gaming and I really don’t need number pad. K707 tenkeyless features an 87 keys layout design, cutting loose the numpad for more mouse-moving space. Original gasket structure and board material in a compact design, crafted for FPS gamers.

What is gasket mount?

A gasket mount is a type of internal construction used in mechanical keyboards. It refers to how the keyboard’s PCB (printed circuit board) and plate are mounted inside the case.

In a gasket-mounted keyboard, soft materials like poron or silicone foam gaskets are placed between the plate/PCB and the keyboard case. These gaskets absorb the shock and vibrations that occur when you press a key.

In contrast, traditional tray mount or top mount keyboards directly screw the plate/PCB into the case, which results in a more rigid and often harsher typing feel.

Why is Gasket Mount Better?

🧈 1. Softer, Smoother Typing Feel

Gaskets act like little shock absorbers. When you press a key, the force gets cushioned slightly—this makes typing feel bouncier and more forgiving, especially during long sessions.

🔇 2. Quieter Sound Profile

Because of the isolation and damping, gasket mount keyboards usually produce a muted, thocky sound instead of a sharp, loud clack. Audiophiles and typists often love this sound signature.

🎯 3. Less Vibration & Fatigue

On rigid mounts, vibrations from your keypresses can travel through the board and make your fingers feel fatigued over time. Gasket mounts minimize this by absorbing a lot of that energy.

🛠️ 4. No Metal-on-Metal Contact

Traditional screw mounts create direct contact points that transmit more sound and stress. Gasket mounts float the internals using rubber/foam, reducing wear and stress over time.

🚫 Any Downsides?

  • More expensive to build/manufacture
  • Might feel too soft for people who prefer a rigid typing experience
  • Slightly harder to disassemble or mod

🔍 Should You Care?

If you’re just getting started with mechanical keyboards, a gasket mount isn’t essential—but it’s a noticeable upgrade once you’ve tried standard tray mount keyboards. If you type a lot, game frequently, or just appreciate that buttery smooth, low-noise experience, it’s definitely worth it.

You’ll often see gasket mount in higher-end or enthusiast boards (like Keychron Q series or custom kits), but it’s now making its way into more mid-range products too.

Noise Dampening x 5

Equipped with 3.5mm PO foam, IXPE switch foam, PET sound pad, bottom socket foam, silicone bottom pad along with the silicone gasket. Significantly reduce the hollow noise, creating dampened and ultra-clean typing acoustics, making each keystroke satisfying and comfortable.

Connectivity – 3-Mode Connection

Geared with Redragon advanced tri-mode connection technology, USB-C wired, BT 3.0/5.0 & 2.4Ghz wireless modes which make the user experience upgraded to another level in all fields.

Custom Mint Mambo Switch

With thick-lubed custom linear switches combo with a gasket form factor, K707 PRO features cushioned rich linear travel with silky creamy and cosy typing feedback. The brand new upgraded socket is nearly all switches(3/5 pins) compatible. I must say that compared to red or brown switches, these are really more “creamy” and smooth and not so “clicky”.

Different versions

Redragon offers 4 versions of STAR BLADE K707

Difference between the first three is just in different keycaps and colours. STAR BLADE K707 in non PRO model and has only 4 layers of noise dampening and different switches.

Conclusion

I really didn’t wan’t to spend more than 100 EUR for my keyboard. So I already had Redragon keyboard before, and I was pleased, but it was noisy and had to plastic keys. I think that a lot of mechanical keyboards that are available in price range 50-100 EUR in 2025 are good for not very demanding user and for normal gamer. I use it for programming and writing text. So I can recommend it especially for the price – I bought it for 64 EUR, but you can get it even cheaper this day’s – check price.
